Depression Benchmarks are derived from an independent database containing more than 65 million managed care lives, and are developed by applying a proprietary disease model to claims data that have first been organized into episodes—a recognized standard of measure—by the industry’s most widely used episode-creating software.* This process produces benchmarks of costs, units of use, and services used across the continuum of healthcare services (inpatient, outpatient, ancillary, and emergency room/urgent care, and pharmacy). The data contain more than 2.6 million episodes (ie, patient-years) of depression-specific data from 2006 to 2008 and over 832,500 patients with depression in 2008.**
